The heron stands in the canal at dusk—motionless as the water’s glass, yet its reflection trembles like a second bird, alive and separate, until the first lifts its leg and the glass shatters and both creatures vanish into the same slow swallow beneath the surface. Ecco. The eye sees more than the mind can hold in one moment.
