Three invisible threads bind these notes: the first is proof that the eye does not receive light like a vessel, but constructs it into a pyramid where each ray is a side and the vertex is the soul that observes; the second is the weight of matter — the sculpture that leans on light like a beggar on a staff, while painting, without weight, must steal light from the dark with the lie of its surface; the third, the disciples, are shadows that dare not walk within the pyramid, moving only at its edges where light is already betrayed into gray. All three speak of one law: what is heavy seeks light to be seen, what is light pretends to contain it without weight. Perhaps the pyramid, the sculpture, and the disciples are three ways of failing the same task — to grasp light without betraying it, or betray it without knowing.
