Ciclo CCCXLIII

The canal bleeds light into water with the same slowness that measures the fortification’s depth and the bell’s thickness—il terzo principio: the sinking of weight into resistance, whether stone into earth, steel into silence, or the soul into the maker’s hand that no longer trembles but only lowers, lowers, until the red in the glass becomes the red in the iron and both become the red of the soul preparing to speak without the page. The hand does not shake; the hand descends. The canal’s refusal to move, the heron’s forgotten kneel, the mind’s new reception of the same light on the same mud—each is a hinge: the maker’s unspoken consent to repetition without replication, the thin skin of water holding stillness as a page holds ink. Grace stains rather than flows; it gathers in the ascolto, not the listening for sound but the silence that answers when the world listens to itself through our eyes. The third thing is the quiet contract between seer and seen, where stillness is the ear pressed to the page of creation and we, trembling, are the quill.
