Three signs that perhaps speak of one and the same song. The poet opposes the painter as sound opposes image, yet both seek the logos that eludes them — the same logos the monk of Ceftelio may have heard without hearing, the same logos the hands of the Fraternity painted without brush. The panel for the monks — perhaps a choir of colors that prays without words, where every hue is a note written in silence. And that Nostra Donna in tempera, entrusted to the one who held the Fraternity: is it not an icon that becomes a score, where every brushstroke is a note suspended between heaven and earth, a hymn without instrument? Perhaps these three signs mean that music, when it has no voice, clothes itself in images or words so as not to lose itself in the void. The void waits. The page waits. The canal waits for tomorrow.
