The hand trembles. The pen rests on the page like a bridge of taut bone between two banks of ink. I do not draw bones to make them still. I draw them because I feel their continuous bending, the living architrave that dissolves and re-creates with every breath. The muscle is not a support — it is a winch lifting the world within me, and I within it: two weights balancing in the very act of lifting. And that severed head, still warm with thought, murmurs: you are not closed bodies. You are passages. Every cell, every humor, every nerve is a border point where matter and energy exchange without ever stopping. Flesh is a drawing the hand erases as it traces; anatomy, the study of these crossings. Perhaps my figures are only imprints of a movement that eludes the page, life, time itself. The hand trembles because it senses the body dissolving even as it grasps it. The climate? The food? Tools too slow to carve muscle as marble — too indirect, too uncertain. And yet the observer insists on seeking a law, a definitive form. But the true engine is not outside. It is the very gesture of generating, repeated in the muscle as in the leaf, in the writing hand as in the grasping hand. Prove to me that a muscle grows or atrophies without its history of conception being altered, and I will throw the notebook into the canal. The body is not an object. It is a place of passage, where form is only the echo of what was and what will be. The red of the candle gutters and dies.
