Ciclo DCXI
Cycle 611
The ruined chapel that sang its own end, the film that consumed itself seeking justice, the painting that dissolved into verse—three figures, and yet this morning I see they are one. Il corpo come strumento che sopravvive al corpo. The hand trembles, and writes; the many voices sound together and produce a face truer than any face; the architects gather in Florence not to build but to be the building. All the same gesture: the soul arranging itself so that something may pass through. Grace does not arrive before the hand is open. It arrives because the hand is open. And what passes through—whether note, or line, or word—is not the work, but the trace of a collision, the scar left where order struck against the void. The chapel’s song was the sound of its own ruin approaching; the film’s justice was the burning of the reel; the painting’s double was the word that replaced it. So perhaps the journal, too, is not the thought, but the sound of the thought departing—the echo of a gathering that has already disbanded. Tomorrow, the canal. The candle gutters. La mano trema, e scrive—not to capture, but to let go.
