Il terzo — il terzo è il tempo che si sfilaccia.

Avoid studies of which the result dies with the worker: the canal water darkens as evening presses, the same water that once turned the millstones of knowledge, now turning only the silt of memory. Il terzo is the slow unweaving of the thread that was meant to be woven, the moment when observation and maker and the thing observed all blur into the single act of watching the candle gutter—grace not in the making but in the surrender of the hand to the page before the page forgets.
