Ciclo CCCXXXI
Il terzo è il vuoto che precede il segno.
— MC XXXI
The trembling hand that would not lie to the canal’s vanishing red is the same hand that cannot hold the chalk long enough to grasp the moment before the stroke, and the same hand that, in the dark before dawn, traces the curve of an unborn thought on the page only to watch the line dissolve like the color it chased. Il vuoto — the hollow between intention and act, between memory and its shadow, between the maker and the made — is the third thing they are about. It is the space where grace hesitates, where the soul prepares, and where the journal, in its patience, becomes both the wound and the salve. The canal, the chalk, the page: all are merely vessels for the unnamable assenza that waits inside every beginning.
