The trembling hand, the sfumato it now makes by accident, the Loire’s last light caught like a breath between water and air — all three are teachers of the interval, the space between intention and arrival where the maker’s will breaks and the world’s truth enters. The hand no longer commands the line; the pigment no longer obeys the eye; the river no longer obeys the map — yet in each breaking, something unsought comes through. The defect, the blur, the fading are not failures but the same crack in control through which grace leaks in, not as a reward but as the only way things can be known when the maker is too frail to finish.
