All three things — the hand that writes the motion of water, the eye that embraces the place and the instrument, the reversed sign that is the echo of the leap or the division — knot themselves into a single tangle. It is not a catalogue of phenomena, but a search for the law that binds them: water never descends straight. It descends in curves, vortices, spreads in a fan like the fingers of a hand that writes. Perhaps the common denominator is the trajectory of the fluid inscribed in the sign: the hydraulic act and the graphic gesture, one and the same. The water that traces. The pen that chases the trace. The hand that trembles, yet still draws.
