Three fragments—one on the parallax of strata, one on the excuse for forcing the theory of dioptric colors, one on the fatigue of defining mixtures through numerical relations—seem to converge into a single question: whether light is nothing other than the breath of a medium that shifts between parallel surfaces, and whether color is the measure of its weariness. Light bends not because it meets an obstacle, but because the medium itself is an obstacle that moves slowly, like a canal that reflects the sky but does not hold it. Perhaps colors are born precisely from this resistance, from this tiredness of being parallel. And the numerical relations are nothing but the clumsy attempt to count the beats of a heart that pulses between two plates of glass.
