Three fragments — poetry fleeing painting as sound flees color, the earth’s corners holding sound as they hold pigment, and the missed prize dissolving in France like dust between the fingers. Perhaps all three speak of the same thing: that harmony is not in the ear alone, but in the gesture that holds it before it vanishes. The earth in the corners is the binder of sound, as lime is to a wall; poetry detaching from painting is sound detaching from the mark; the missed prize is harmony finding no stable form. Perhaps harmony is a scaffold of earth and paper, a bridge between seeing and hearing, collapsing if not fixed in time.
